Software Review

As part of my assignment, I was asked to review two pieces of software used throughout this year’s IT professional skills module.   The most used software I used was the Teams platform. I had to join a team and use this platform to communicate with my fellow group. Pros of Teams is its very useful to communicate. You can schedule a meeting and record the meeting very easily. As part of our assignment, we had to do a write up report. One of our team members began the report and was able to add the Microsoft word document to the team’s page and we could all access it very easily and, we could all edit it as we freely wanted to.   The main con I had was I didn’t know people had to turn on their notifications to see posts on the team page. A few times I uploaded something, and it took a day or two for people to notice.   SWAY was another software platform we used. This was my very first time using this software. I found it great in some ways but also a little t...

My experience writing a blog

My final blog reflects this whole experience. For my assignment in IT professional skills in ATU, I had to write blog over six days on something technical based. The reason it had to be tech based is because I am studying software development.   My biggest challenge was deciding what can I write about. There are two many options. By chance I was gigging in a local pub in Galway, and I needed to use the Ultimate Guitar app to quickly play a song I wasn’t sure of. I thought to myself what a neat application. This was perfect because it incorporated something I love and something I am studying. A new subject we took up this year is application development, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. This app development subject has opened my eyes to how much work goes into writing up and app. The truth behind a good app is, how user friendly is it?   Are the buttons located in a neat way? Is the app easy to use and will it crash if the user does something different.   The ultimat...

Pros and Cons of using apps to learn songs

This is a very quick blog that I was interested in speaking about. That would be the pro’s and con’s of learning a song or instrument through one of these applications. Before I dove into it, these are all personal opinions about these sites.   Pros When growing up it took a very long time to get on the internet. Believe or not I am from a time where Dial up was still a thing. To load up any music or download any sheet music at the time was unheard of in my house anyway. We used to go to our local music shop and buy the sheet music in a book or printed out on sight. The pros of this application is the access is there in a second. I can look up any song and find a cover of it and the chords of it in an instance.  If you look at my past blog’s you will see a list of features that realistically are all pro’s. you can adjust the key of the song, the speed at which it scrolls through the page and also you can easily zoom in on something if you find it hard to read. Con’s ...

Alternative Apps

Image
In the past few blogs, I've been discussing the ins and outs of the application and website Ultimate Guitar. I feel I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I didn't give you some alternatives. In the last few day’s I have looked at the following websites of these two alternatives and tried them out personally.  Yousician: You have most likely seen this app advertised on YouTube. This would depends on your YouTube algorithms but for anyone who has ever looked up hoe to play a song on YouTube this is a very popular add. When entering the site to Yousician , It straight away asked me some useful questions. How skilled are you? , what instrument do you want to learn? how often do you practice?  With these questions answered it brought me to a page that was allowing me to set up a free trial.  To be honest I didn’t sign up for the trial but what I did was head straight to YouTube and saw a run through of the app. Some great features are accessible in Yousician. It is m...

More and more features

Image
Todays blog includes a few more features used in the ultimate guitar pro app. In yesterday’s blog we discussed how ultimate guitar allows you to transpose the itch of the song. Also, we discussed one of the cool features of auto scroll. To learn more about these follow this link to yesterday’s blog. Let us begin with today’s blog. Official chords and tabs Ultimate guitar added this feature which is highly aimed and players who are determined to learn the song note by note. The ultimate guitar team create these tabs themselves. I have used this personally and have found it very accurate. Virtual Fretboard Along the bottom of the tabs, you get to see a virtual fretboard which will show you where to put your fingers. For some people who are only learning to read tablature this is a very fun way to learn the song. Backing tracks A very neat feature is the backing tracks. Playing along with this will help you learn the rune but also help you play along with other players. ...

Features and personal use

Image
Earlier this year I began gigging again and decide I should go ahead and pay for the full membership of the Ultimate Guitar app. To say I am thrilled with the purchase is an understatement. The app has so many extra features that help anyone beginner or professional to learn a song that they want. Let’s discuss some features, shall we? Transposing: So, what is transposing? In general transposing is adjusting the key to the song either up or down. You may ask yourself why is this useful. The key reason this is useful is because if you haven’t got a high voice and you are learning some Queen then you may ant to lower the key pf the song to suit your own voice. Another reason why transposing is useful is when you are in a situation where you feel not too confident enough to play the song but need to play it in a gig situation. Some chord progressions are easier than others and by transposing to the key of G major you have a likely chance of making it through the song without m...
